Website and control panel (cPanel)

The control panel, called cPanel, allows you to manage all features of your hosting account, including email, FTP, Site Builder, statistics, databases, files and more.

You can connect to your cPanel from your Client Area, under My Services.

Once your domain is pointed correctly to our servers (please allow for a propagation period lasting up to 24 hours) your website may be accessed publicly at http://www.honestboy.ca (the "www" is optional).

You may also use this permanent link to view your site without your domain at any time: http://clgpke02.mywhc.ca.


(S)FTP Access

(S)FTP (Secure File Transfer Protocol) connections allow you to transfer files to and from the web server. To connect by (S)FTP, you'll need FTP software. A good free choice is FileZilla. Once your FTP software is open, you can connect to your account with the following:

Mode: FTP (or SFTP for secure transfers)
(S)FTP Host: ftp.honestboy.ca
Note: if your domain doesn't yet point to our servers, you may use:

Once connected, you must upload all your website files into the public_html folder. You should name your home page index.html, index.htm, or index.php in order for it to load automatically when your domain is typed in. If there is already a default index file in your public_html folder, you may overwrite it with your own.

 


DNS (Nameservers) Information

If you have registered your domain with a third party, you'll need to update your domain's nameservers (also called DNS) in order for it to function with our hosting. This is done automatically for you if you register your domain name with us. Your account's nameservers are:

Nameserver 1: cloud1.whc.ca
Nameserver 2: cloud2.whc.ca

For additional domain names (if you host multiple domain names on the same account), please use our classic DNS servers:

Nameserver 1: ns1.whc.ca
Nameserver 2: ns2.whc.ca

Please note that DNS changes normally require up to 24 hours to take effect, and your domain may experience inconsistent behavior until the changes have fully propagated across the Internet.

Renewals and account management

Your account can be managed from our Client Area with your email address and password you selected when creating your account.

The Client Area can be used to manage your services, contact technical support, pay invoices, manage your affiliate account, and more.

In order to guarantee service continuity, your hosting contract will automatically be renewed prior to its expiration date. If you have a valid credit card on file with us and your services are configured for automatic credit card renewals, we will attempt to charge your card 5 days prior to your invoice's due date. Please communicate any requested changes to your account at least one week prior to your invoice's due date.

 


Security & performance tips

Keep your web applications up-to-date. New security patches are released often, so ensure your software as well as its plug-ins, modules and themes are always running the latest versions, otherwise your account may be vulnerable to potential security breaches. You can usually update your applications through the cPanel's 1-click Installer (Softaculous).

Always keep your email address on file up-to-date. If you do not have a valid email address on file, you may not receive critical notifications, such as expiry notices and maintenance notifications.

Be careful with your account information. Never share your login information and don't log in using shared/public computers (particularly at Internet cafés!). Use secure passwords at least 8 characters long, containing both letters and numbers. Hackers love short passwords that contain your username or your real name.

Beware of scams! Emails from us are clearly labelled as being sent out by WHC.CA or Web Hosting Canada. You may occasionally also receive account-related mailings from our mother company, nCube Solutions. Be wary of any other communications that claim to come from your web host but that don't include either of those names, particularly those asking you to "renew" your services with a company you do not recognize.

Do not delete or move files you are unfamiliar with. Some files on your account, particularly those outside of the public_html folders, are required for the proper functioning of some of your account's features, and should not be modified or deleted. If in doubt, ask our support team.

Regularly check your Error Logs and Statistics. They can reveal important errors and trends about your site. Both tools are available in your cPanel.

Use an up-to-date Anti-virus and Firewall on your workstation. Infected end-user machines are the #1 source of security breaches on hosting accounts. Minimize risks by using commercial anti-virus and firewall software to protect any workstation that connects to any of our secure systems.
